About DISHA
DISHA is a membership-based, non-governmental organization registered under the Bombay Public Trusts Act of 1958. Disha works in seven tribal districts of Gujarat, namely - Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Mahisagar, Panchmahal, Dahod, and Chhota Udaipur, covering 31 blocks and 1357 villages. DISHA has promoted and empowered various community-based institutions, including issue-based groups, workers' unions, people organizations, cooperatives, women's groups, youth groups, and producer companies. Disha has also developed a budget analysis and research unit which enables the above-mentioned institutions to build their capacities for analysis and advocacy in such a way that systems and structures of governance are more accountable, transparent, and responsive to the needs and entitlements of the forest dwelling tribals and other socially marginalized groups.
